Fabergé and His Menagerie
The Animal Creations of the Fabergé Workshop
Rarely seen treasures of the famed Russian artisan Carl Fabergé are revealed
in this exhibition of 120 miniature carvings, on view Feb. 7 through May 9,
2004. Drawing on Russias wealth of semi-precious stones jasper,
quartz, lapis lazuli and amethyst Fabergé carved these charming
creatures, some as small as one-half inch, using each stones natural variations
to represent physical attributes of the animals or objects, such as a seals
wet skin, a mouses fur or a birds feathers.
