HockeyYou’ve probably heard: Portland rocks. But don’t take our word for it, come see — and hear — for yourself. Created in partnership with IndieMusicPortland.com, our exclusive CD — Stumptown Rock, Vol. 1 — is yours when you check in at a participating hotel near Portland’s hip music venues.

Why it rocks: You’ll find hand-painted murals in every room and record players in the suites; as the front desk, you can borrow vintage vinyl or buy guitar strings or bike-repair kits; myriad clubs and bars are within stumbling distance; and the hotel played a role in Gus Van Sant’s Drugstore Cowboy.

About the album

Stumptown Rock, Vol. 1

“When I was asked to make a compilation of 12 local bands the task before me was both easy and terribly frustrating. Easy because there are many bands to choose from and frustrating because there are only 12 slots on the CD. I tried, and hopefully succeeded, to include a broad swath of music from Portland's indie music scene — pop rock from Blitzen Trapper and Another Cynthia; hard-edged rock/electronic from Hockey and Faux Hoax; folk, American and neo-folk from Au, Loch Lomond, Nick Jaina and Run On Sentence; and analog/electronic sampled beats from Squall, Mount Analog, Boy Eats Drum Machine and Panther.

It's a small but tasty bite of what Portland has to offer.”
