Pearl District: Portland Oregon Neighborhoods
In This Section
When exploring this modern, upscale neighborhood adjacent to Portland’s downtown, keep one thing in mind — 15 years ago this place was an uninviting industrial zone. In the mid-1990s the Pearl started to undergo a tremendous makeover, its warehouses and factories gradually converted into mixed-use commercial and residential buildings that now encompass hip housing, stylish shops and eye-catching eateries.
Quick facts:
- The Pearl District is in the city’s northwest quadrant, so all street addresses are labeled “N.W.”
- The Portland Streetcar runs on 10th and 11th avenues.
- Much of the Pearl District is inside the Free Rail Zone, where all train and streetcar rides are free.
